I have Norton Antivirus on my computer, but it needs activating whitch I can't do cause I haven't got the product number. I tried to download the free antivirus from the internet, but nothing happened. I don't know whether I need to cancel the old antivirus before getting the new one form the internet. I really don't know what to do, Norton still comes up and says I have a problem that needs fixing. Could anybody give me an answer here, please?

Norton should not prevent you from DOWNLOADING but you would be wise to uninstall Norton before INSTALLING a new antivirus.
If you cannot download it could be a manifestation of whatever problem Norton is reporting. If you have Norton Internet Security then the Norton Firewall might be causing the problem. See if you can get a friend to download the file for yofree norton antivirus downloadu.
go to control panel and uninstall Norton ,next download avira anti virus or AVG both got good virus detection rates and both are free,*test results AV comparitives*
Also you need 2 good Anti Spyware programs ,one should have real time protection AVG anti spyware is excellent although it is not free about ￡8.50p a year for licence.Windows Defender ,Spybot S&D or Adaware 2007 are also o.k.
yes it will be ok but download the norton removal tool would be better to completely remove it just google "norton removal tool" and follow instructions then when that is complete download your free version
You can have as many anti-virus programs on your computer as you like, but only one can afford to have real-time protection on. Hence, you should turn off the real-time protection of either the free program that you are going to download, or Norton.
Failing to do so may result in system performance issues, root conflicts, etc.
